Executives from The Oracle and other college publications took their oath on the first day of the second Annual Planning and Training of New Student Publications (SIKLAB) conducted by the Student Publishing Unit (SPU) held at the TSU Hotel, Lucinda Campus, August 6, 2024.
Leading the oath was the SPU Section Head, Dr. Gladie Cabanizas who also reminded the attending publications of the responsibilities that come with their respective positions in her opening remarks.
"Holding a position in a student publication is very challenging, very stressful, and takes much of your time," she said.
Dr. Cabanizas also expressed her intent to instill comraderie among the different publications through their planned SIKLAB activities.
"You are all one big family," she stated.
Moreover, leading the Journalist's Creed was incoming Editor-in-Chief of The Work, Ashley Nicole Ilagan.
To prepare the incoming publications' executives for the academic year, the first day of the event consisted of talks on Stress and Time Management by the College of Teacher's Education Associate Guidance Counselor, Ms. Carolyn P. Malonga, LPT; and Philippines Media Law by Ma'am Gladie Cabanizas.
Other highlights in the event were the afternoon team building session among the publications organized by the TSU Guidance and Counselling Unit (GCU) which consisted of seven games and a socialization activity in the evening where attendees bonded through food, music, and social interactions.
The SIKLAB was first established as an annual planning and training event for new publications last academic year, 2022-2023.
The second day will consist of more talks with invited speakers and the awarding of accreditation of publications on August 7, 2024.
