In line with the celebration of the 118th founding anniversary of Tarlac State University (TSU), three campuses converged to participate in a tree planting activity spearheaded by the TSU Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA), on October 18, 2024.

With this years’ theme “MARILAG: Husay at Tatag,” Dr. Agnes Macaraeg, Vice President for Academic Affairs, shared her gratitude for the debut of the said activity in her welcoming remarks within TSU – Main Campus.

“Small things come a lot, kaya ito po ay hindi natin masasabi na small things lang kasi you will be adding beauty to Tarlac State University,” Dr. Macaraeg said.

“We are parts and parcel of history, and this is history,” she added.

Additionally, TSU-NASA expressed appreciation to the staffs, faculty members, personnel, and their roles for participating in the event inside TSU – Lucinda Campus.

"Maganda siya, nakapag-share kami sa environment ng TSU...napapakita mo rin na aside from working in the office, may involvement sila and concern din sa environment,"said Ms. Elena May Teofilio, Head of Procurement Unit.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Mrs. Leimina Alconcel, under Office of the Registrar and Assistant Head for TSU – San Isidro Campus, she shared the importance of tree planting and how TSU fights with the emergence of environmental challenges.

“Since nagiging aware na tayo sa effect ng climate change, mas umiinit na ngayon, tsaka ‘yong flooding ay mas matindi ngayon kaya kailangan natin ng matinding panlaban,” Mrs. Alconcel exclaimed.

Mrs. Alconcel added that for every staff and employee, one tree is attributed. She also sought nurturement for the planted trees to ensure that they will survive, explaining that at least once a week, areas that have been planted should be visited by assigned offices.

The tree planting activity within campuses of Main, Lucinda, and San Isidro commenced simultaneously at seven in the morning, and ended early with the help of TSU maintenance staffs.

Over 300 Bougainvillea were planted along the McArthur Highway, in front of the TSU – Main Campus while TSU – San Isidro Campus planted over 100 Mango and Paper trees within the vicinity of San Isidro Covered Court. Meanwhile fruit trees like Soursop, Atis, Avocado, and Guava were planted inside Lucinda Campus.

The said event is one of the many projects of TSUNASA, that is comprised of non-teaching employees in accordance with DOLE-CSC Registration No. 1709 and Civil Service Commission Accreditation No. 873.
