Tarlac State University – Communicators’ Guild (TSU–CG) bagged its first-ever gold award in the vlogging category of the 28th EdukCircle International Convention on Media Communication held on October 25 via Zoom.
Their entry, “Sitio Kolorum,” portrayed the struggles of Filipinos without birth certificates by comparing them to unregistered jeepneys—both unrecognized yet vital parts of society.
The concept was developed by CASS Student Council Governor Clarisse Ann Dacanay, who served as main writer, together with host and co-writer Roberto Luiz Macapagal.
The production team also included P. Lois Quinocho and Webster Lacson as Directors of Photography, and Matthew Evis Cunanan as Chief Film Editor, under the guidance of faculty advisers Mr. Derich Bognot and Ms. Ma. Teresa Madriaga.
“Yung konsepto ng Sitio Kolorum was actually suggested by our host and my co-writer, Roberto Luiz. Nung nag-decide kami na ang content ay tungkol sa mga kapatid nating IPs na walang birth certificate, umikot ang ideya sa pagkakahalintulad sa mga sasakyang kolorum—wala silang tiyak na pagkakakilanlan gaya ng mga sasakyan sa lansangan,” Dacanay explained.
She added that the message reflects the experiences of Filipinos seen yet unrecognized in society due to the lack of legal identity.
Chief Film Editor Cunanan expressed his gratitude for the team’s victory and the lessons they learned throughout the process.
“Masaya po! Actually, first time ko rin po sumali sa competition kaya napaka-thankful ko po sa team at sa guidance ni Lord. Dahil sa sobrang galing at sipag ng prod team, napaka-worth it ng process, kaya ang astig talaga sa feeling na nakauwi kami ng gold,” he said.
He shared that transportation was a challenge due to the distance to Sitio Kalangitan but thanked his mother for helping and the jeepney drivers who lent their vehicles.
Despite post-production difficulties, the team, guided by Sir Derich Bognot, completed a cohesive and meaningful story.
The production assistants included Joseph Ernest Mendoza, Justine Carl Luis Bagaoisan, Alexa Wendy Manialong, Kathlene Manipon, and Abijah Privado.
Marking its first gold victory, TSU–Communicators’ Guild reaffirms its dedication to storytelling that informs, inspires, and promotes social awareness.
