The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (AB Psych) program of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) at Tarlac State University (TSU) marked a historic milestone after holding its first-ever Psychology Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony yesterday, February 21, 2025, at Priscilla Hall, TSU Hotel, Lucinda Campus.

With the theme, “Igniting One’s Purpose to Pledge Excellence in the Field of Psychology,” the ceremony symbolized the transition from academic life to real-world practice transition of 83 students from AB Psychology 4A and 4B as they prepared to embark on their on-the-job training (OJT). They received their pins, representing their pledge to uphold the values, integrity, and passion necessary in the field of psychology.

TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco graced the event and delivered an inspiring message to the 4th-year Psychology students.

“Perfection is not payable but if you chase perfection, you can catch excellence. Quality in excellence means doing the right thing even when no one is watching,” Pres. Velasco stated.

“Wag mamawalan ng pangarap, dahil walang mahirap sa taong may pangarap,” he added.

Moreover, Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg, TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the significance of the event, noting that this first-ever Psychology Pinning Ceremony marks a major milestone in the 24-year history of TSU’s Psychology program.

Adding to the momentous occasion, Mr. Johnkris Cornel Tulabot, RPM, delivered an inspirational talk, underscoring the importance of dedication in the field.

“Excellence in psychology does not lie in perfection or the absence of failure, but in the dedication to continual learning, ethical practice, and meaningful contributions to the world around us,” Mr. Tulabot said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Aloysius T. Madriaga, CASS Dean, emphasized the symbolic significance of the event, highlighting that receiving their pins represents a commitment to uphold integrity, passion, and excellence in the field of psychology. He encouraged students to explore every opportunity for growth, embrace unity and diversity, and stay true to their personal and professional values.

The event was also honored by the presence of Dr. Brigido B. Corpuz and CASS Governor Alexander Adrian Ong who stressed the ceremony’s importance within the broader academic and professional community.

Furthermore, Ms. Kyra Rosheena S. David, President of the COESSE - TSU Psychological Society, led the Oath of Commitment to Ethical Practice. In an interview, she shared her emotions and reflected on the long event preparation.

“Masaya. Actually, magkaiba kami ng feeling ng mga kabatch ko. Para sa kanila, ito ay parang culmination ng academic journey. Pero para sa akin, ramdam ko yung pagod sa event, mula December ko pa ito pinaghahandaan. Pero masaya ako kasi nakita ko silang masaya,” Ms. David expressed.

Despite financial constraints faced by their organization in organizing the event, she found fulfillment in seeing her peers' joy. She also expressed hope for the continuity of the tradition.

“Sana magtuloy-tuloy, sana hindi lang ngayon,” she added.

The ceremony also featured an intermission number by Mr. Joseph Dupol and Ms. Chilean Pinesa, members of Psych Idols Musikeros, before culminating in the much-anticipated Pinning Ceremony.

This inaugural pinning ceremony marks the beginning of a new tradition for TSU’s Psychology program. With this milestone event, TSU Psychology continues to pave the way for future psychologists, preparing them to serve with competence, compassion, and integrity.
