Joey David of Slytherin House was hailed champion of the Men’s Badminton Singles category at PalaCASSan 2024, after dominating every set in a commanding 2-0 victory over Gryffindor’s Neil Angelo Areola in the championship match, held on Day 3 at the TSU Gymnasium on November 28.
David started off strong in his first set battling Gryffindor’s Neil Angelo Areola, with a 9-point advantage mid-set and a final score of 21-13.
Furthermore, David outperformed Gryffindor in their last set by finishing it off with the score of 21-8, leading to his championship title.
In an interview following his victory, David revealed that he had not prepared for the CASS sportsfest.
“Hindi naman po ako nag-prepare so kung ano lang po do’n, yung sa tryout lang po, do’n lang po ako nakapag-laro, ‘yon lamang po,” he shared.
Moreover, in his first match with Hufflepuff’s James Carbonel, he didn’t let Hufflepuff reach his score of 21-13 in their first set and a 21-16 in their second set, giving him a pass to the championship round.
He expressed “Nice game, nice game, ‘yon lang,” towards all of his opponents.
Meanwhile, David shared his future endeavors on his badminton journey in TSU, expressing his determination to continue improving and aiming for even greater success.
“Paghahandaan ko po yung intrams para baka sakaling makakuha tayo ng gold,” he stated.
Furthermore, Gryffindor’s Areola took home silver, while Hufflepuff’s Carbonel stood on bronze.
David’s impressive victory at PalaCASSan 2024 solidified his place as a formidable player.
With his sights set on the Intramurals 2025, David is definitely one to watch as he looks to continue his winning ways.
