Gliding the match in PalaCASSan’24, the intelligent Ravenclaw reps Ronalyn Bagang and Diana Mae Celino exert dominance in the chess women’s division, clinching gold and silver last Monday, November 25, in SH101, Smith Hall.
Ravenclaw’s Bagang of AB Psych 4A secured the gold medal, copping 6 wins and 1 draw.
She also expressed her insight about her winning moment, taking home the gold medal to Slytherin.
“Happy po syempre…masaya po kasi hindi ko na-disappoint ‘yung sarili ko,” Bagang said.
Bagang also shared her game and master plan she adapted during the game.
“Yung mindset ko…it is what it is; go with the flow; just enjoy your game; do not pressure yourself,” she added.
In addition, Bagang also mentioned that she felt nervous on the first day of the competition, opposing her teammate, Celino, using the same opening technique and countering it.
Meanwhile, Celino, also from Ravenclaw, scooped the silver medal with 5.5 victorious moves.
Lining first in the women’s category from day 1, Celino shared her perspective on cutting her three-winning streak.
“Okay lang din sya, inexpect ko na iyon kasi board 1 nga namin si ate Rona sa Ravenclaw…so inexpect ko sa next fight ko, which is sya nga, maka-cut talaga ‘yong streak,” Celino said.
Furthermore, Slytherin’s Chanille Reese Dizon of AB Psych 4B landed a bronze medal, finishing the competition with 4 sleeky successive wins.
In an interview, she shared a message to those who are willing to try and play chess.
“Kung gusto nyo talaga, yung willing kayo… kasi kung pine-pressure nyo yung sarili nyo, wala man, parang hindi sya ‘yung sports para sayo… enjoy lang talaga, ‘yun lang,” Dizon said.
Concluding the women’s chess division, other players are looking forward to and encouraging CASS students, such as freshmen, to join the upcoming intramurals 2025 to represent the college.
Listed below is the summarized standing of the winners:
Gold (Ravenclaw) Ronalyn Bagang – 6.6 wins
Silver (Ravenclaw) Diana Mae Celino – 5.5 wins
