PH Futsal team claim historic debut in 2025 Asian Cup

The Philippine National Women’s Futsal Team, known as the Pinay Booters, made history by qualifying for the 2025 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Futsal Asian Cup which is set to take place in China from May 6 to 17, 2025.


In their final Group C match last January 19, 2025, held at the Yunusobod Sports Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the Philippines faced Australia in a tightly contested game that ended in a 2-1 defeat.


On the first half of the game, the Australia team showed a skillful attack but fails to earn a goal.


Bringing the heat on the 7 minute-mark of the game, Judy Connollly’s pass detours to Daisy Arrowsmith earning the first score for Australia.


The Philippine team refuses to be dominated by the opposing team making Isabella Flanigan executes a last-minute goal before the first round concludes forcing the own goal by Halle Smit.


Moreover, team Australia advances on the second half round of the game by the proficient moves of Claudia Fruscalzo towards Jessica Au.


Pinay Booters attempted to release powerful kicks but fails to earn a goal against the defense of the opponent, leaving team Australia undefeated and to lead the Group C qualifiers for the Asian Cup.


Australia topped the group with a perfect 4-0 record for 12 points.


The Philippines finished third with seven points, securing qualification as the best third-placed team across all groups. Their record of two wins, one draw, and one loss showcased their determination and skill throughout the qualifiers.


Pinay Boosters marked the country’s first-ever participation in the prestigious tournament, their qualification is a testament to the team’s growing competitiveness and the increasing prominence of women’s futsal in the Philippines.
