KNY-TSU university forum ignites youth leadership for ethical governance

Kaya Natin To Youth – Tarlac State University (KNY-TSU) forum, “Youth in Action 2.0: Turning Vision to Progress through Ethical, Effective, and Empowering Leadership,” held on February 24, 2025, at Priscilla Hall, 5th floor of the Tarlac State University Hostel, Lucinda Campus.
The event gathered students, student leaders, and student organizations to gain insights from distinguished speakers on critical societal issues highlighted the vital role of the youth in fostering ethical leadership and responsible voting, promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability in governance.
The forum aimed to equip young minds with the necessary knowledge to make informed electoral decisions and practice ethical leadership.
Former Commission on Audit Commissioner Heidi Mendoza delivered an inspirational message through a recorded video, reminding the youth that leadership should always be rooted in honesty and service.
“Ang pagpapatakbo ng pamahalaan, Kaya Natin—kung may integrity, transparency, and accountability.” He said.
Mx. Kristina Mae Marzan Angeles, President of the Pag-asa Youth Association in the Philippines, served as the first speaker, discussing the “Impact of Youth in Society.” They opened their discussion with a thought-provoking challenge, “Tayo ay naniniwala na ang mga kabataan ay change maker, ngayon sa nangyayari sa lipunan natin ikaw, nananatili ka bang pag-asa ng bayan?”
Their talk emphasized the struggles faced by young individuals, including abuse and violence, and encouraged proactive participation in addressing these issues.
They also led a Youth Impact Quiz, a group discussion on pressing social concerns, and an individual commitment activity where students wrote concrete steps they could take to improve their communities.
“Tayo ay nagiging boses din nila bilang youth leaders,” they emphasized, highlighting the responsibility of young leaders in amplifying the concerns of their peers.
Moreover, Hon. Lorenzo “Erin” Reyes Tañada III, 3rd nominee of Mamamayang Liberal, served as the second guest speaker, focusing on “The Impact of Youth in Shaping Ethical Leadership in Society.” He elaborated on the importance of ethical leadership and responsible voting.
“Gusto natin ng leader na hindi magnanakaw… gusto natin ng leader na alam ang gagawin.” Hon. Tañada stated.
Furthermore, Hon.Tañada also stressed the need for electing leaders who understand national issues, engage with the public, and uphold strong moral principles and reminded the audience, encouraging gradual but meaningful efforts toward positive change.
“We can start to do something even though in small steps,” He added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Duanne Emmanuel Martinez, a career specialist discussed “Pag-unawa sa Bawat Boto: Ang Boto Mo, May Epekto.” He tackled political literacy and the dangers of political dynasties, warning about politicians who prioritize business interests over public welfare.
Mr. Martinez also emphasized the importance of informed decision-making in elections.
“Bantayan po ang mga kandidato na mas inuuna ang negosyo kaysa kapakanan ng mamamayan.” Mr. Martinez said.
He also emphasized the critical role of fact-checking and thorough research in ensuring informed decision-making, particularly in governance and elections. Mr. Martinez also highlighted the importance of a government that prioritizes public welfare over profit, reinforcing the idea that leadership should serve the people rather than personal or business interests.
The KNY-TSU forum left participants with a deeper understanding of their role in shaping a transparent and accountable society, reinforcing the belief that youth remain a powerful force for positive change.
