The College of Arts and Social Sciences Karatekas of TSU's Karatedo Varsity Team pocketed multiple victories in the 2nd Cebu Open Karate Championship, last Oct. 26 to 27, 2024, held at SM Seaside, Cebu City.

The 2nd-year Bachelor of Human Services students expressed joy as they harvested the fruit of their 3-month after-school training, with Marjorie Jhoy Sanchez bagging gold in Individual Kata; Adrian Jovale Gomez snatching gold in Team Kata; Michelle Lopez, along with Sanchez, securing silver in Team Kata; and Jayne Marie San Pascual clinching bronze in Kumite.

"I was excited and nervous at the same time because of the new place and new faces. But during our competition, I performed what I knew, and I stayed focused and gave it all," the 19-year-old Lopez shared her experience during the competition.

Further, the 19-year-old Pascual shared that their inspiration was to improve and bag more medals. She also extended her gratitude to everyone that supported her and her team on this journey.

"Gusto rin po namin magpasalamat sa mga coaches namin, Coach Willie I. Alagano and Sir Paul sa support na binibigay sa amin mula umpisa and pinupush kami mag improve pa, and we also want to give thanks to Dr. Ligaya Salangsang na sinuportahan kami, maraming-maraming salamat po! Salamat din sa mga kaibigan ko and team na sinuportahan ako lalo na sa someone na special sa akin. Thank you guys," the aspiring neurologist San Pascual exclaimed.

The Karatedo Varsity Team brought home 11 gold, 11 silver, and five bronze medals, garnering a total of 27 medals. The athletes also bagged the "Farthest Competitor Award."
