The College of Arts and Social Sciences Student Council (CASS-SC), in collaboration with the Kanlahi Community Center, spearheaded an HIV awareness seminar for Tarlac State University (TSU) students last March 25, 2025 (TUESDAY), at Gabriella Hall, TSU Hotel, Lucinda Campus.
The event carried the theme "AVOID THE SCARE, BE AWARE" as part of their initiative to promote awareness and reduce HIV transmission by offering free testing and other related services to the students.
Speaker Marc Joseph Pangilinan engaged the attendees with an informative and dynamic presentation where he clarified the distinction between HIV and AIDS, highlighted the fluctuating rates of HIV cases, particularly in Tarlac, detailed the modes of virus transmission, and shared effective prevention methods.
During the interactive segment, Pangilinan also addressed the students' questions, fostering an open discussion about HIV.
"Currently, you are already on that step in reducing stigma [around HIV]. Why? Because you are immersing yourself in this kind of awareness," he stated.
"You'll be able to execute yung hug, even kiss them or whatnot, kasi you know na hindi naman doon nakukuha," he further elaborated.
In addition, CASS-SC Governor Alexander Ong conveyed his appreciation to the students and partner organizations who contributed to the event's success. He also acknowledged its significance in reducing the stigma around HIV.
"Let us work toward a more inclusive society wherein ang lahat ay pwede mabuhay without stigma, without the fear of judgment," Gov. Ong urged.
This seminar is part of a series of activities organized by the CASS-SC in partnership with various organizations to celebrate the National Women's Month.
