Students from AB Communication 4B held a seminar entitled "Buhay Media: A Seminar on Effective News Writing and News Reporting in the Fast Changing world of Journalism" last April 15, 2025 at the Theater room, Smith Hall Building, TSU Main Campus.

The seminar highlighted different topics like the roles of traditional and digital media; fundamentals of news writing and challenges faced in journalistic field work.

Ms. Jimmylle Anne Monique De Loyola Torio, a TSU alumna and news reporter/writer at RTV Tarlac Channel 26, served as the guest speaker. Drawing from her professional experience, Ms. Torio emphasized the importance of journalistic integrity and accountability.

“Lahat ng isinusulat niyo, kayo ang accountable doon, and as a journalist, you have the responsibility to tell the public the information. Hindi puwedeng kulang, hindi puwedeng sobra at hindi puwedeng opinionated,” emphasized.

Moreover, Ms. Torio also shared a valuable piece of advice she received from a senior colleague regarding the importance of appearance and confidence in news reporting.

"Hindi lahat ng pumapasok sa kuwarto may laman, pero kapag mukha kang may laman pakikinggan ka. Ganoon din sa new reporting, if you don't look the part walang makikinig sa iyo,” she said.

Meanwhile, she also shared her personal news writing technique called the J.A.M.’s Method, which stands for “Just, Accurate, and Meaningful” principles she believes every journalist should uphold.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer segment where attendees engaged with the speaker, seeking further advice and clarity on journalistic practices.
