Tarlac State University – Guidance and Counseling Unit (GCU) conducted the seminar “Be Smart: In Love and in Life” to promote healthy and rational relationship decisions among students on February 27, 2026, at the TSU Main Campus Gymnasium.

The seminar gathered students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), and the College of Engineering (COE).

The discussion was led by resource speaker Mr. Nicko B. Adalem, MAEd, who reminded the audience to approach relationships with rational thinking and emotional awareness.

“Alam na natin ‘yung reasons kung bakit tayo nafa-fall,” he said, explaining how dopamine plays a role in falling in love.

Mr. Adalem also discussed psychological perspectives on why people experience heartbreak and anxiety in relationships. The seminar included interactive games that helped the audience become more engaged in the discussion.

The discussion also highlighted common relationship “red flags” and how students can identify them while in a relationship, ultimately helping improve their overall quality of life.

In an interview, GCU intern from the College of Arts and Social Sciences, Nikka Gutierrez, shared how the seminar impacted students like her.

“These seminars, particularly the Love, Courtship, and Relationship Seminar, not only inform students about love but also encourage them to make smarter decisions in their relationships. They help build practical and emotional intelligence, which ultimately impacts their quality of life,” Ms. Gutierrez said.

Furthermore, she extends her gratitude to the guidance and counselling unit.

“As an intern, I'm very glad to be part of their work. The TSU Guidance and Counseling Unit continues to uphold its values and helping profession by conducting these seminars, especially at a time when technology has greatly impacted the emotional and critical thinking of college students,” she added.

The GCU aims to uphold its commitment to improving students’ quality of life as it continues to conduct student-centered seminars focused on overall well-being.

The Guidance and Counseling Office for CASS is located at the TSU Main Campus – Engineering Building.
