Venomous moves strike as day 2 of PalaCASSan’24 in the chess men’s division steered by the house of Slytherin bagging gold and bronze, halting Ravenclaw’s winning streak this Monday, November 25,2024 at SH101, Smith Hall.
Slytherin bet Dexter Jan Abalos varnishes with 8 wins, copping the gold medal.
In an interview, he shared his strategies and tactics he applied during the game.
“Basta naglalaro lang…yung nasobrahan kami sa kalalaro kasi palagi kaming pumupunta sa training…kumbaga yung ngayon, basta nilaro nalang ‘yung laro,” Abalos said.
He is also looking forward to joining the upcoming intramurals 2025 to represent the College of Arts and Social Sciences Men’s Chess.
“Plano ko na po talagang paangatin ‘yung CASS Chess Team natin, kaya magmula nung simula nang [may] pasok, iyon na ‘yung tinatrabaho ko,” he added.
Another rep from Slytherin maneuvered by Sean Alfred Ferrer nabbed the bronze medal with 6 wins.
The day 1 undefeated Wilzhanne Lorin of Ravenclaw with a five-winning streak was slashed on wings by Abalos of Slytherin during round 6, day 2 of the game.
In spite of failing to defend his five-winning streak from day 1 of the game, Lorin of Ravenclaw flew with the silver medal clutching 7 wins.
Moreover, on round 7 of the men’s division, three players—Slytherin’s Abalos and Ferrer and Ravenclaw’s Lorin, finish in dead heat for the gold medal with 6 wins.
The game was resolved by the collective decision of the players, leading them to play additional rounds in the men’s category.
Commencing another round-robin match with a limited time of 5 minutes for each player and exceeding for a total of 9 rounds, the tally settles for the final top 3 winners.
Despite the conflict behind the tied scores in the men’s division, the chess competition still drove well and concluded with another friendly match between the players.
