College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) students actively participated in the annual CASSplay Competition by the CASS Student Council last November 15, held at the Smith Hall Building, TSU-Main Campus.
CASSplayers roamed the building dressed up as their chosen characters fitting for the concept, “Gothic Fantasy.” The participants were allowed to wear their themed attires for the whole day and take photos with students. Some revealed they crafted their own do-it-yourself (DIY) costumes for the said competition.
CASSplayer Kenjih Yalung of AB COMM 2A was hailed winner of CASSplay 2024 and will be receiving a cash prize of Php 1,500. In an interview, he shared his insight about the relevance of this competition to the CASS students.
“As a CASS student, siguro this event will help us to express ourselves in our own unique way in our costume, by that, mae-express kung ano talaga yung nasa feelings natin doon sa cosplay,” he said.
Additionally, Yalung won the Halloween Cosplay Competition organized by the TSU - Supreme Student Council, alongside his fellow CASSplayer Leanna Manuel who followed him at 2nd place.
According to CASS-SC Governor Alexander Ong, CASSplay serves as an activity for CASS students to express themselves through cosplay in celebration of this year’s Halloween.
“In terms of contribution, siguro magse-serve siya as a breeder or parang to let them express themselves doon sa mga talagang gusto talaga nilang i-portray,” said Gov. Ong.
Given the few participants, Gov. Ong stated that this year's CASSplay event was far different from last year.
“Last year, nagkaroon ng problem sa pagpapapasok ng mga students nang naka-costume or nakasuot ng cosplay nila…siguro ang naging problem this year is the participants na hindi lahat game na pumasok nang naka-costume,” he added.
Regardless, Gov. Ong extended his gratitude and appreciation to the participants of this years’ CASSplay Competition.
Meanwhile, CASS-SC apprentice Roella Trysha Hinayon mentioned the significance of the event and the conflict she observed during the CASSplay 2024 competition.
“First of all, I think okay po siya as in super… compare po kasi last year, andaming nag-join kahit ibang colleges andaming nakipag-participate… I think since late po ang announcement ng event, so kaunti lang po talaga yung nag-join,” said Hinayon of AB Psych 3B.
Here are the winners of the recently concluded CASSplay 2024 as announced by CASS-SC on their official Facebook page last November 21:
1st place – Kenjih Yalung
2nd place – Leanna Manuel
