Third-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication students showcased their theatrical talents during Final Play 2025, staged on December 22 at Prescilla Hall, Lucinda Campus, Tarlac State University (TSU).
The culminating activity of their Introduction to Theatre course featured 12 performances from six sections, spanning genres such as romance, comedy, sci-fi, drama, fantasy, tragedy, and horror.
Emerging as Best Play was Comm 3-2 Eve’s romantic comedy “My Missing Piece,” directed by Mr. Leuther Vhan Mercado, who also won Best Director.
“My Missing Piece” tells the story of how two people’s imperfections perfectly fit together, symbolizing the idea that love is often perfectly imperfect.
“Sobrang grateful ako kasi napakagagaling talaga nila… sobrang nakakaproud po sila at sobrang saya ko na sila ang mga kagroup ko,” Mercado shared, despite the limited rehearsal time.
Meanwhile, Comm 3B’s tragic play “Anathema,” which portrays the struggles of a troubled journalist, clinched First Runner-Up, while Comm 3A’s fantasy musical “Salasatinig” placed Second Runner-Up.
Other major placers included Comm 3B’s “The Man Who Can Be Moved: The Musical” (Sci-Fi) as Third Runner-Up and Comm 3D’s “Huling Dasal” (Horror/Tragedy) as Fourth Runner-Up.
In special awards, “Salasatinig” won Best Technical Production, Best Set Design, and Best Costume and Makeup, while “My Missing Piece” secured Best Set Design and Best Concept. “Huling Dasal” also received Best Costume and Makeup.
Best Posters were awarded to Comm 3-1 Eve’s “Shantay You Stay” (Sci-Fi) and Comm 3D’s “Mission Im-Potion-ble: Don’t Fall in Love” (Rom-Com). Best Stage Direction went to Comm 3A’s “Amparo” and Comm 3C’s “Kubling Sala,” while Best Technical Production was awarded to “Anathema.” Comm 3C’s “Luha ng Lupa” earned Best Concept.
Other performances included Comm 3-1 Eve’s “Dugtong” (Tragedy), Comm 3-2 Eve’s “Ina” (Drama), and several ensemble-driven productions.
For individual awards, Ms. Maria Fe Valdez of Comm 3-2 Eve was named Best Actress for her role in Dugtong, while Mr. Mandie Asejo of Comm 3B won Best Actor for Anathema.
“All I really did was fully live the character and give my best,” Asejo said, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in developing his role.
Ms. Angelene Alfonso from Ina and Nicole Agustin from My Missing Piece were named Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. Special recognitions were also given to Sylvia Atencio (Huling Dasal), Marvelyz Gamurot (Ina), Paul Andrei Paraiso (Salasatinig), and Jimuel Lavitoria (My Missing Piece).
