Comm Dept. tackles off-campus activities, concerns, elects PC reps in virtual meet

Parents and students from the Communication Department attended a virtual parents’ meeting earlier this day, Oct. 09, through Zoom, for an orientation and introduction of off-campus activities, and for the election of Comm Parents’ Council Representatives.

Department Head Asst. Prof. Ma. Fermina Joyce Nucum outlined major course requirements needed for each year, and explained that off-campus activities must be approved first, citing Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) 15-day compliance memo.

Additionally, Asst. Prof. Nucum sought assistance from parents in instilling good manners and behavior from parents, after the Student Discipline Office receives complaints every week from Communication Classes.

She also gave a run-down explanation of parents’ council fee, and shared the ₱50 Organization fee, covering the seminar and events created for comm students.

Meanwhile, a student raised concern regarding the said fees, asking if there are any liquidation reports of the funds collected from the parents and organizations.

“It has been a good practice sa department na once nag-liquidate ng budget, hindi pwede mag-ask ng additional budget hangga’t hindi nal-liquidate ang naunang request…kasama ito sa accomplishment report, including ‘yung mga activities and gastusin nila,” Prof. Nucum replied.

Furthermore, breakout rooms were also held during the meeting, segregating attendees into respective levels for the selection of representatives per year.

Ms. Ma. Teresa Madriaga also explained the process and responsibilities of a parent council, quoting “PC is a vital role in strengthening the collaboration of the university and student’s parents.”

The online meeting abruptly ended without officially presenting the voted representatives of the department. As per the department, here is the final list of Parent-representatives.

The presented officers will also attend a college-wide Parents’ Meeting, together with other parent-representatives from other programs for the election of new College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Parents’ Council Officers on Oct. 11.
