Senior students from the Communication Arts program held a voice-acting seminar titled "ON AIR KA NA: A Seminar on Voice-Over Performance and Professional Delivery" at the Tarlac State University Main Campus, Smith Hall Building Theatre Room on March 13.
The group's key speakers consisted of August Miguel, Jasfer Sicat, Marianne Luzano, Nizza Yttularde, and Lois Quinocho, who discussed how voice-over performances should be delivered.
Voice acting professional and production supervisor Christine Joy Ferrer from Love Radio Tarlac was invited to share her knowledge about voice acting and provided engaging insights on how to approach the profession.
Ferrer is known for her work in various TV commercials, including lending her voice to the well-known Dr. Wong Sulfur Soap commercial.
"Kapag nakapasok na kayo dito, kailangan ninyong maging authentic. Kailangan mahanap ninyo ang niche ninyo kasi nag-iisa lang kayo," she stated during the talk.
She also reminded the audience not to let self-doubt get the best of them, emphasizing that voice acting is a broad profession. She added that even her lisp did not stop her from pursuing a career in voice acting.
"Andami kasing hindi naniniwala sa sarili nila, pero kapag nagpa-practice, nakakaya nila."
In an interview, she shared a message for beginners who feel discouraged in voice acting.
“It’s okay. It’s part of the growth ng career. Pero I can suggest na sana, never stop learning,” she added.
Each student speaker discussed different areas of voice acting. Sicat talked about voice control and vocal techniques, Luzano discussed script interpretation, Yttularde covered recording practices, while Quinocho focused on building a career in voice-over acting.
In an interview, Quinocho emphasized the importance of coordination when planning a communication seminar.
“Of course, as an organizer, you must have that kind of character that is focused, calm, and composed,” they added.
