COESSE-TSU Psychological Society, in partnership with TSU-SSC, CASS-SC, and
Auxilium Sodality, organized a mental health summit entitled,” Mental Health CARE:
Celebrating Awareness, Resilience, and Empowerment,” last October 29 at the TSU
Gymnasium.
With the theme “GINHAWA sa lente ng ordinaryong manggagawa,” the summit tackled
the significance of helping people outside the field of psychology to understand the
importance of mental health.
TSU students as well as seminarians from the Our Lady of Peace College Seminary
(OLPCS) gathered at the venue for the talk show proper in the morning program, which
was opened to anyone, including outsiders.
Resource speakers, Mr. Jeremiah Paul Silvestre, an instructor from the University of
Baguio and former instructor, lecturer, and guidance counselor in TSU, and Ms. Mikaela
Joy Garcia, a TSU alumna and former COESSE president, answered different questions
from the hosts and students that participated in the Q and A portion of the segment.
During the talk show, Silvestre highlighted the importance of using language to make
ordinary people outside the field of psychology understand mental health.
“Important kase that we use a language para mas maintindihan ang mental health […]
In addition, Garcia emphasized the importance of being in the field of psychology and
human services. She encouraged the audience to advocate for mental health.
“For our psychmates, Bhummates, and for our seminarians in general, I guess this is
where we can realize that our current position is important, especially for those who like
to become mental health practitioner in the future. But, actually, you can start now. If you really want to advocate for mental health, then you can join many organizations, such as #MentalHealthPH,” Ms. Garcia said.
Meanwhile, the afternoon session, which was exclusive for AB Psychology and B Human
Services students, was filled with laughter as both departments energetically participated in the games and interactive activities prepared by COESSE and Auxilium Sodality. The winners of the games were rewarded with vouchers and cash prizes.
Furthermore, CASS Dean, Dr. Aloysius Madriaga, gave an inspirational message where
he told the audience to remember what the acronym M.E.N.T.A.L H.E.A.L.T.H. means
and embody what they represent.
COESSE also awarded the resource speakers and hosts certificates of appreciation for
their contribution to the event.
After the summit, the students were asked to stayed in the venue for the CASS assembly led by Dean Madriaga, the College Parents’ Council, and College Student Council.
