College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) staged its annual CASSplay competition last November 14 at Smith Hall Building, marking another year of student participation in the college’s signature cosplay event.

Participants roamed the university grounds posing for photos and presenting the effort poured into their handmade attire as part of the event’s activities.

CASS Student Council Governor Clarise Ann Dacanay said the event serves as a platform for creativity and expression within the college.

“Not just to create, but also to show their confidence when it comes to crafting and showcasing themselves through arts,” she said.

Several students shared stories behind their participation, including Claire Anne Tutor, who portrayed a Nurse from the Silent Hill franchise.

Tutor said she did not expect to join the competition, explaining that a friend encouraged her after she was no longer part of the College Student Council.

“Cosplay is a form of art that gave me the confidence I did not even know I had,” she said.

“I really tried my best na maging accurate sa film,” she added, noting that she spent weeks handmaking her costume—even during midterm examinations.

Another participant, Diya Nicole Gurung, who also cosplayed a Silent Hill Dark Nurse, underscored the importance of creative outlets for students.

“It’s important to have an outlet for your interests and to have the audacity to put that creative part of you out there even when it’s your first time,” Gurung said.

“It’s important to not let your fears box your potential,” she added.

This year’s competition provided students with a space to explore their creativity, bring their imagination to life, and express themselves through art.

Online voting for the CASSplay 2025 champion ended on November 16 at noon, with winners to be announced through the official CASS Student Council Facebook page.
