Students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences took part in Student Affairs Services (SAS) Days Celebration with the Seminar, “Red Light, Green Light,” spearheaded by the TSU-Guidance and Counseling (GCU) Unit on February 26, 2025, at the TSU Gymnasium.
The seminar was facilitated together with the TSU-Student Welfare Services, TSU-Students Affair Services, and in partnership with Peer Facilitators' Circle.
Communication Arts 3-C, English Language Studies 3-B, Human Services 2-A, and Psychology 3-B enjoyed the insightful discussion, along with other students from different colleges in the Main Campus.
Entitled "Red Light, Green Light: Knowing when to stop or go in a relationship," this seminar is the first installment of the three-day seminar as part of the celebration of SAS Days, from February 26-28. This seminar aims to enlighten students on fundamental and valuable knowledge in building interpersonal relationships.
TSU-GCU Director Dr. Oliver Cura led the discussion on spotting red flags that contributes to the stagnancy of a relationship.
"Sa relationships hindi sobrang magbebenefit ka sa ganitong attitude (overly controlling) o kaya sa ganiyang status. Madali kayong magsawa sa ganiyang approach, o sa ganiyang status," Dr. Cura said as he specifies markers of red flag behaviors.
"Kung paulit-ulit, hindi na healthy, hindi na pwede magbenefit. Pero kung paminsan-minsan lang, baka pwede pa namang ma-manage yan,” Dr. Cura further insisted.
Prof. Maria Shiela Garcia-Medina, RGC, LPT, RPm continued the seminar proper, emphasizing the fundamentals of building an efficient relationship.
"Mas maganda kung you fall inlove with yourself first before you fall inlove with someone else. Kasi healthy relationships take time, take effort. Ang relationships, it takes effort. Kahit na kasal na kami, kahit na may anak na kami, nage-effort pa din kami. Kailangan nage-effort ka sa iyong relationships to maintain the good dynamics and magandang pagsasamahan," Prof. Garcia-Medina mentioned in her conclusion.
"Fall inlove with yourself first before loving other people. Because that is the only time that you could form solid and healthy relationships,” she added.
Furthermore, CASS Dean Aloysius Madriaga and Engr. Enalyn Domingo were invited as speakers during the Love Sharer segment of the event, sharing love experience and values to the students.
Meanwhile, the Office of Gender and Development led the Seminar on Hygiene and Sanitation and the launching of Project Providing Access to Dignity and Sanitation or Project PADS during the event.
The Seminar on Hygiene and Sanitation was conducted by Nurse Cherryl M. Abila of the Office of Medical Services Unit, aiming to disseminate basic knowledge on women's hygienic menstrual cycle and the possible risks pf unhygienic practices. This was followed by the ribbon cutting and launching of the project spearheaded by GAD Director Dr. Rita A. Pulmano, GCU Director Dr. Oliver Cura, the GCU staff, and SSC Officers.
Project PADS aims to provide primary assistance to female students in menstrual accidents through the installation of plastic bins containing sanitary napkins in every female restroom.
“Red Light, Green Light: Knowing when to stop or go in a relationship” is a seminar that aimed to help the students in building beneficial and healthy interpersonal relationships through providing tips such as spotting red flags.
