Communication students from Tarlac State University (TSU) clinched a bronze medal in the social media category during the grand finals of the Communications Olympiad held on Friday, June 27, at the Meralco Headquarters in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.

The team—composed of Romer Madrid, Heleina Anjela Quesada, Angilene Dableo, Jael Tabanao, and Clarise Ann Dacanay—secured a spot in the Top 15 after competing against 22 universities nationwide.

According to project head Romer Madrid, their team felt honored to represent Tarlac State University in the inaugural Communications Olympiad and were deeply thankful for the opportunity to share their advocacies with a wider audience.

"One word to describe what we feel as the first delegates from Tarlac State University in this year's Communications Olympiad is grateful — grateful for the trust, opportunities, and the platform to share our advocacies and connect our purpose to underserved communities," Madrid said.

Furthermore, he also emphasized that, as communication majors, they believe in using their voices as instruments of change.

With the theme “Rewrite Climate Change,” the Olympiad aimed to provide hands-on learning and give students the opportunity to advance their skills as future communications professionals.

Madrid also shared how the team carefully prepared for the finals by conducting research and selecting a program they could align with the needs of their chosen community.

“We did our research and chose one of One Meralco’s programs that we could develop a plan for—something that would truly benefit our target community,” he said.

The Communications Olympiad is a nationwide competition and training initiative for communication students, jointly organized by COMCO Mundo League of Enterprises, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, and the One Meralco Foundation.
