Contemporary dance group— representing Tarlac State University take home the 2nd runner-up award and made a strong showing themed "Last Day on Earth" at the CAASUC 2024, held at Bulacan State University last November 28, 2024.

Out of the ten dancers representing TSU at contemporary dance category, eight were from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), which contributed greatly to the team's success.

Head Coach Sir Daniel Dizon shared that the preparation for the competition was filled with emotional and physical challenges.

"It was a whirlwind of emotions because we were challenged in the last week of preparations as injuries and health issues arose. But our spirits never faltered because from the very beginning, we ensured that the team was built from a solid foundation of contemporary dancing,” Sir Dizon explained.

“After overcoming such adversities, we were able to just have fun and be light." he added.

Moreover, Assistant Coach Sir Darren Dee Alimurong, who also teaches Theater at TSU, emphasized the emotional depth required for contemporary dance.

"Ang major part ko as the assistant coach was to work on their emotions. Since it is a contemporary dance, and currently I am a Theater instructor, I shared insights on how they can deliver their emotions properly in accordance with the theme and message of the performance," he said.

Meanwhile, Team Captain Louis Jancee Agustin revealed the challenges of building team cohesion.

"The most challenging part was bringing the team together. As a captain, I am somewhat responsible for building the connection between the members." Agustin said.

Agustin also spoke about the team’s goal of winning the championship despite internal conflicts and moments of frustration, Agustin highlighted the importance of teamwork.

"Our goal was to bring home the champion. We fell short, but 2nd runner-up isn’t bad – that’s still a medal. After CAASUC, the team is looking forward to competing nationally, and we plan to achieve that by staying together and training non-stop" he added.

Furthermore, TSU Contemporary Dance Team's 2nd runner-up finish at CAASUC 2024 stands as a testament to their perseverance, dedication, and unity.

Despite facing obstacles in both health and team dynamics, their commitment to contemporary dance and their bond as a team drove them to success.
