The College of Arts and Social Sciences Student Council (CASS-SC) hosted “TSUning,” a musical competition that served as a platform for students to showcase their talents and advocate for women’s empowerment held on March 29, 2025 (SATURDAY) at the TSU Main Campus – Heroes Park.

Hosted by Marjorie Bernardo of the Communicator’s Guild, the competition encouraged participants to use music to express themes of gender equality, empowerment, and appreciation for women.

Among the notable performers was the Hibiscus Band, composed of Junie Soliman, Elle Flores, Rachelle Mejija, Janssen Gozum, Dheinne Ashley Dayrit, and Julius Eijansantos as they performed an original composition titled Gumamela.

In an interview by the host with Junie Soliman, one of the song’s writers, he shared that Gumamela represents the idea of a perfect girl, while also conveying a deeper message, that women’s flaws are valid and that it’s okay to embrace and show their true selves.

"Hindi mo kailangang maging perfect para maging gumamela." Junie stated.

Moreover, Paul Andrei Paraiso joined and sang John Legend's "All of Me." In an interview with the host, Mr. Paraiso explained that the song resonates with the message of admiration and love for women, as it was written by Legend for his wife.

"Ang pagkakaintindi ko po kasi sa 'All of Me' habang kinakanta ko po siya parang description po niya ang wife niya ang girl dun. Parang natouch ako sa line na iyon" Paul Andrei said.

Meanwhile, the event also welcomed several walk-in performers, including Ryan Joseph Orgaya, Alex Balmores, and Lance Gabriel Rombaoa.

Due to technical difficulties, some walk-in participants performed without a microphone, while others opted to sing along to instrumental tracks or play live accompaniment using a guitar.

Winners of the competition will be announced on the official Facebook page of the CASS Student Council.
