College of Arts and Social Sciences–Guidance and Counseling Unit (CASS-GCU), in partnership with the CASS Student Council and Auxilium Sodality, conducted a webinar titled “Gintong Aral: Building Strong Foundations for Effective Study Habits” for first-year CASS students on October 7 via Zoom.
The program aimed to equip freshmen with effective study strategies, improve their time management, and provide guidance to those struggling with academic routines through an interactive discussion with the speaker.
Resource speaker Lea Pineda, RPm, CHRA highlighted the importance of discovering which study techniques suit each student best, stressing that not all strategies work for everyone.
“Create your own mold; you can’t fit into someone else’s,” she said.
Additionally, she advised students to prepare for their exams by reviewing the syllabus, reading notes, understanding key concepts, applying the study habits that work for them, and believing in themselves and in God.
In line with World Teachers’ Month, Pineda also reminded participants to show appreciation to their professors by demonstrating how much they have learned from them.
She further engaged with the audience by answering questions and sharing her own study experiences, making the discussion more relatable to the participants.
“The golden rule is to know yourself. Who are you as a student?” she said when asked to give one “gintong aral” for effective studying.
Furthermore, College Dean Dr. Brendalyn A. Manzano, expressed hope that the students would apply the speaker’s tips as they prepare for the upcoming midterm examinations.
Meanwhile, Bethany Faith Ganibo, a student from the Communication Department, shared the lesson she found most valuable from the webinar.
“Everything is a practice. Every habit, discipline, and our whole being is a product of constant practice,” she said.
With about 178 freshmen from departments of Psychology, Communication, English Language Studies, and Human Services in attendance, the webinar reinforced CASS-GCU’s mission of guiding students toward academic success.
