College of Arts and Social Sciences first and second years made their regional debut at the Culture and Arts State Universities and Colleges III (CAASUC III) together with the Tarlac State University Hip-Hop Dance Group to claim third in the Hip-Hop dance competition with their rendition of "Tala" by Sarah Geronimo, held at Bulacan State University, last Friday, November 27, 2024.
Representing the Communications Department were Rodolfo M. Santos III (Comm 1-B), Roy Marty I. Nakpil (Comm 1-A), and Raflornito S. Blas Jr. (Comm 2-C). Meanwhile, Reden Lauren J. Yumul (Psych 1-B) was the lone representative from the Psychology Department.
Santos III, a first-year student, expressed his excitement at being part of the team.
"Isang malaking opportunity na i-represent ang TSU sa isang competition, lalo na at first time ko and unexpected na magkakaroon agad ng award," Santos III expressed.
Santos III also mentioned their excitement to showcase their talents to new audiences as first-time competitors during their 3-week preparation of the TSUHHDG.
"Andun yung pressure pero mas nangingibabaw pa rin yung enjoyment na nafefeel ko," he added.
Moreover, having performed at an intercollege level for hip-hop, Blas Jr. of the CASS Indayog dance group also set his course to join in this year's CAASUC for the first time.
"Ang intercollege po, tinuturing po namin na friendly competition lang. Pero ang CAASUC, mas tight ang competition, mas mature ang competitors," Blas Jr. said.
According to him, while the team’s goal was not to focus solely on winning, he expressed pride in securing third place and hopes for future success.
"May 2 years pa akong natitira sa TSU. Hoping na ma-line up ulit, and makuha yung ginto sa mga susunod na taon," Blas Jr. added.
The TSUHHDG performance was headed by Coaches Daniel Dizon, Instructor I from CASS and Kaju Melegrito from the College of Education; alongside Head Choreographer John Paul Baybay, a College of Science alumni from the dance group.
Concurrently, the host body, BulSU nabbed the champion title while Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) claims second place.
