College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) wrapped up its College Day celebration on October 18 at the TSU–Lucinda Campus Student Center, pushing through despite a sudden power outage that disrupted the morning events.
Led by CASS Student Council Board Member on Audit Yuan Christver Canary, the celebration was divided into two segments: Laro ng Lahi in the morning and the Inter-Organization Games in the afternoon.
Students from various CASS department formed eight teams to compete in traditional Filipino games such as Chinese Garter, Goma, Spider Weaving, Moro-Moro, Piko, and Touching Ball.
Team Indigo emerged as the overall champion, followed by Team Green in second place and Team Red in third.
When power was restored later in the day, student organizations—including COESSE–Psychological Society, Communicators’ Guild, Linguistic Society, and Auxilium Sodality—participated in the Inter-Organization Games.
TSU Communicators’ Guild claimed the championship, dethroning the previous titleholder Linguistic Society.
Auxilium Sodality placed third, while COESSE–Psychological Society finished fourth.
Communicators’ Guild President Lois Quinocho expressed gratitude to their members for embodying the organization’s tagline, “The art of showing up.”
“Alam kong mga pagod sila, but still, they showed up. That’s that. Yung tagline o campaign namin, ine-embody talaga namin — na we, as communication students, we show up, and that’s what matters to us,” Quinocho said.
Governor Clarisse Ann Dacanay shared the challenges they faced during the preparation, including overlapping events and logistical issues caused by the power interruption.
“We had a hectic event during the foundation week, followed by Mr. and Ms. TSU. Although we prepared ahead, there were still unforeseen circumstances like what happened earlier,” she said.
She also mentioned that budget delays added to their struggles.
“Aside from that, the budget wasn’t processed right away, so we had to make advances. We used whatever resources we already had in the office,” she added.
Gov. Dacanay said the council’s next focus will be preparations for the upcoming Intramurals, including tryouts and athlete selections for various sports and the bench yell competition.
CASS College Day is held annually during TSU’s Foundation Anniversary to foster unity and camaraderie among CASS students and organizations.
