The College of Arts and Social Sciences Student Council (CASS-SC) successfully held a drag competition entitled “TSU-perstar: A Drag Extravaganza of Talent and Glam” last Wednesday, March 26, at CCS AVR, TSU San Isidro Campus.
Three candidates from CASS mesmerized the audience with their dazzling outfits and lip-sync performances.
After a night of glamour and talent, Anon Cherzic, also known as Angel Rohan Roi R. Estarija from AB Communication 2-1 EVE, emerged as the champion. Anita Bargain (Yuan Christver T. Canary) of AB Communication 2-1 EVE secured the first runner-up title, while Jabami (Kenjih D. Yalung) of AB Communication 1A placed as second runner-up.
In an interview, Estarija highlights the financial and time-management challenges involved in preparing for the drag competition while balancing other commitments, such as being a dancer and a student.
“It's very expensive and also time consuming, kase I am also a dancer for TSU and also a student [...] I just managed my time and tried to keep things in place,” Estarija shared.
Moreover, CASS-SC governor Alexander Adrian Ong kicked-off the event with his opening speech, emphasizing his belief that the LGBT pride should be celebrated every day and not only during a month-long celebration.
“Maybe 'yung iba sa atin is nagtataka bakit parang napaaga ang pride month. Bakit parang March pa lang ay meron nang events para sa sangkabaklaan, pero naniniwala ako na araw-araw wala tayong buwan na para sa atin, kundi ang araw-araw natin na pamumuhay ay para sa'ting lahat," he stated.
Adding to the evening’s entertainment, the panel of judges also entertained the audience with their own lip-sync performance.
The event was open to all bona fide students at Tarlac State University, showcasing a night of inclusivity, self-expression, and empowerment.
