Graduating BA Communication students hosted the "Voice in Action" seminar this April 10, 2025 at the Theatre Room, Smith Hall Building —TSU Main Campus.

The event aims to empower students in mastering vocal techniques and understanding the importance of tone variation in voice acting in reader's theatre and radio drama.

Featured guest speaker, Ms. Lyn “DJ Sweet Nicole” Gonzalez, graced the seminar for an engaging talk where she refuted the misconceptions of being a voice artist.

“Alam mo, ‘pag voice artist ka, hindi puhunan yung magaling ka manggaya. Hayaan mong makilala ka na isang tunay na voice artist, hindi bilang impressionist,” she shared.

DJ Sweet Nicole also advised COMM students to do voice acting with love and passion.

“Sa voice acting, hindi siya magbabasa lang, kailangan may puso, you enjoy what you’re doing and nandoon pa rin yung desire mo,” she said.

Meanwhile, student speaker Irene Bagayas discussed the importance of voice acting in storytelling.

“Voice acting is essential in storytelling, it enhances the immersive experience to make the characters more relatable and ensures that the message of the story is effectively communicated,” she stated.

Furthermore, COMMates participated in a voice acting session, showcasing their talent in advertisement, narration, dubbing, and FM radio DJ.

To give a demonstration, student speakers—consisting of Heleina Quesada, Irene Bagayas, Caleigh Gamboa, Maricar Bucasas, Luigi Asto, and Communicators’ Guild President Romer Madrid, did a live dub and narration of the fable “Ang Hari ng Gubat.”

Despite the sudden power outage midway that lasted for 30 minutes, the student presenters continued to deliver their lecture.

The event concluded with DJ Sweet Nicole offering three full scholarships for COMM students who want to pursue and study voice acting. Chosen scholars are to attend an online workshop to be held every Saturday this June.
