Tarlac State University - Guidance and Counseling Unit (TSU-GCU) conducted a study habits webinar themed “Gintong Aral: Mastering the Art of Learning” for first-year students in partnership with the College of Arts and Social Sciences Student Council (CASS-SC). Yesterday, October 2 via Zoom Meeting.
The webinar aims to foster time management and the development of effective study techniques and strategies that can be used in preparation for school-related activities or any academic activities. The said activity is part of the University Comprehensive Guidance Program.
Ms. May C. Cruz, LPT, RGC, the event resource speaker, discussed different study habits and effective study techniques and strategies. She also emphasized the importance of self-care and prioritizing mental health.
“As a student, I know na hindi lang naman pag-aaral ang iniisip ninyo.” Ms. Cruz said.
“There are so many things and factors that affect your mental health, very important kasi that you are okay when you are reviewing and studying, that’s why don’t forget to practice self-care, ‘wag kayo maging madamot sa sarili ninyo… do not just study hard but also study smart,” she added.
In an interview with Ms. Mary Joy R. Manalo, RPM, the Associate Guidance Councilor of CASS and one of the host of the webinar, she reflected on the success of the webinar.
“The event made a success as the objectives of the study habits webinar were achieved, despite experiencing technical difficulties, participants remained actively engaged during discussion/webinar, and majority of the feedback from the attendees that we received was positive,” she said.
Additionally, she shared her desire for students to stay open to new experiences of learning, not be afraid to seek help from professors and/or peers if needed, and find a balance between study and rest.
On the other hand, CASS Dean, Dr. Aloysius T. Madriaga, expressed his disappointment during his opening remarks due to the low number of attendees, encouraging all of the first-year students to join the webinar.
“Dear students, I want to make you aware that our Student Affairs and Services are doing this not for them but for you… Gintong Aral, because we want you to continue establishing your study habits. You will have four years in TSU and we want you to be doing well,” Dean Madriaga stated.
Moreover, faculty members Mr. Derich T. Bognot of the Department of Communication, Ms. Trisha Kaye D. Jimenez of the Department of English Language Studies and Mr. Johnkris Cornel D. Tulabot, RPM, from the Department of Psychology, graced the meeting to share their own study habits that can also benefit the students.
The recently concluded study habits webinar became an opportunity for CASS freshies to broaden their knowledge of different studying habits and techniques that may help them manage their academic activities and mental health at the same time.
