The College of Arts and Social Sciences’ Department of Psychology and Human Services spearheaded their first joint Parents Meeting, accommodating parents and students from the 1st to 4th-year level, held at the TSU Main Gymnasium yesterday, September 28.
Associate Professor V, Dr. Editha Villavicencio, and Associate Professor IV, Dr. Grace Anne Hasegawa from the Department of Psychology, graced the stage to introduce the COESSE and Auxilium Solidality’s0 student activities planned for the semester, explaining that student learning is not only limited to inside their classrooms.
According to them, each student is encouraged to pay an organization fee of 50 pesos to provide monetary support for these organization-led activities, such as participation in research conferences, trainings, and seminars.
"Ang singkwenta niyo ay siguradong may kwenta" said Dr. Villavicencio.
Moreover, parents were given an informed consent letter detailing the college's call for a voluntary collection of the Parents Council fee, totaling 150 pesos per semester.
"The donation will provide additional resources for our students in the programs and activities they will participate in this school year," the letter implied.
"Kami po ay nagbibigay ng serbisyo sa komunidad po natin kasama po ang inyong mga anak," Dr. Hasegawa said.
Furthermore, parents from each year level were appointed and elected as Parents’ Council representatives and officers, as assisted by the Psych and BHumServ faculty:
Psychology Department:
1st year — Mrs. Elena May Muldong
2nd year — Mrs. Raquel Obeña
4th year — Mrs. Vilma Manglanlan
Human Services Department:
1st year — Mrs. Ligaya Aquino
2nd year — Mr. Carlito Manalo
Aside from the vacant Psychology 3rd-year parent representative position, the listed parents above will comprise the Parents’ Council for the Psych and BHumserv Departments.
The meeting also served to explain the Psychology Department's new academic curriculum and retention policy, and to address parents' concerns on various aspects of the academe.
This event marks the Psych and BHumserv Departments' first face-to-face joint meeting following last year's Parents Meeting conducted online via Zoom.
