A key meeting for parents of students under the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program held at the Theater Room, Smith Hall Building at Tarlac State University, Main Campus, Today, August 24.

The meeting was divided into three sessions, each focusing on essential topics pertinent to second- through fourth-year students. The morning session kicked-off with a comprehensive overview from the Chairperson of the Communication Department, Assistant Professor Maria Fermina Joyce Nucum, covering both the old and new curricula.

During the afternoon, Lecturer Sherlaine Banaag provided clarity on the recent curriculum changes and its importance, focusing on the differences between them and the potential impact on students with failed subjects.

"Yung mga nasabi po na changes sa curriculum ay for the first year po ngayon at yung mga dadating pa po na bago. Maaari lamang po kayong maapektuhan, if magkakaroon ng conflict sa grades,” Ms. Banaag stated.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the importance of the study plan and agreement involving off-campus activities like risk reduction projects for sophomores and internship programs for juniors.

In addition, Instructor Derich Bognot presented the department’s strategic and action plan, with goals aimed at academic improvement, student engagement, and career readiness. He also boasted the success on the results of their track study regarding their graduates’ employment rate.

"98% of the graduate students sa track study na ginawa namin ay employed... Talaga namang masasabi nating may future tayo sa COMM," Mr. Bognot exclaimed.

Parents also took part in the election of officers for the Parents Council. The sophomores and juniors had successfully set the new batch of officers. However, the third Parent Meeting for fourth-year AB Communication students saw attendance from only two parents and a few students. The meeting did not continue with its planned agenda and proceeded directly to the election.

Assoc. Prof. Jazzel Manabat, the Director of the Office of Public Affairs, addressed some pressing issues from the previous semester, particularly concerns regarding the Parents Council Fee.

"Makakasigurado po kayo na lahat ng pera na ibinibigay niyo po sa fee na ito ay muli din na ibabalik sa mga estudyante,” Assoc.Prof. Manabat stated.

The meeting also covered upcoming department activities, key course requirements, and guidlines for the proposed corporate attire, providing parents with valuable insights to better support their children as they transition into the BA Communication Program.
