The Department of English Language Studies (DELS) under the College of Arts and Social Sciences successfully held its annual General Orientation this September 11, at the TSU Gymnasium.
Linguistic Society, the official organization of DELS, facilitated the event themed "wELScome: Discovering Linguistic Wonders" to orient DELS students for the academic year 2024-2025.
The gymnasium was filled with the energy of the attendees who engaged in the interactive activities prepared by the organization, while also being entertained by the various performances of their fellow DELS students.
CASS Dean, Dr. Aloysius Madriaga, expressed his gratitude towards the students under the ELS Department in his opening message delivered by the DELS Chairperson, Asst.Prof.Franchete Caingat.
"Your choice of this degree, I believe, is not a no choice for you or a matter of chance but a divine providence. Something that you have to believe God has given to you... As you travel through this academic adventure, stay curious, stay motivated, and most importantly, stay open to the possibilities that lie ahead," Asst.Prof.Caingat said on behalf of Dr. Madriaga.
Furthermore, During the presentation of the accomplishments and general action of the CASS Student Council, Gov. Alexander Ong expressed his enthusiasm that there will be ELS students who would join the CASS-SC in the future.
"I hope na sa mga susunod na taon mayroong isa sa inyo na nakaupo dito or kahit hindi lang isa na nakaupo dito na magre-represent sa ELS sa Executive Board ng CASS-SC," Gov. Ong said.
The Accomplishment Reports and General Plan of Action of the Linguistic Society, ELS Department, and the Student Research Journal were also presented during the event.
Meanwhile, Ms. Jackelyn Capiniedo, TSU Librarian, presented the services offered by the TSU Library, while Associate Guidance Counselor, Ms. Mary Joy Manalo, discussed the services offered by the Guidance and Counseling Unit.
The orientation served as a kickoff event of the Linguistic Society for DELS as they look forward to the academic year 2024-2025.
