Fourth-year representatives Christian Justin Tañedo and Thimothy Addelaide Yvonne Perez were crowned as Mr. and Ms. Communication 2024 in the screening held today, September 9, at the Theater Room, Smith Hall Building, TSU-Main Campus.
Meanwhile, Wayne Andrew Enriquez and Jennylyn Sibulboro secured 1st place, while Mr. Marco Luis Silvestre and Ms. Fresel Jane Lanuza claimed 2nd place.
The event was organized by the TSU Communicators’ Guild and featured a total of 10 candidates across various year levels competing for a spot to represent the department.
In an interview with Tañedo, he revealed that his key to acing the competition is being his true self, which makes him stand out from the other candidates.
“I think one of my edge towards other candidates is that you have to be genuine and authentic, which something that leverage you towards other candidates or your competitors,” Tañedo said.
“You can answer questions, and you can advocate any causes but your responsibility towards that cause is something that will speak volume on how you are going to act and walk the talk,” he added.
In an interview with Perez, she stated that she didn't expect to be crowned as the department's representative because of her newcomer status in pageantry.
“This is my first time to join this kind of pageant kaya hindi ko ine-expect na mananalo ako. Talagang kinakabahan ako kasi noong una, ang sabi sa amin Wednesday yung totoong event so na-move siya dahil online class kaya nakahinga ako nang maluwag," she said.
Moreover, in his closing remarks, Romer Madrid, President of the TSU Comm Guild, emphasizd the importance of conducting a screening within the department before entering the college screening, as it enabled the candidates to be better equipped.
Among the panel of judges were CASS Lecturers Derich Bognot, Angel Saludez and Karen Maniego, who evaluated the candidates’ opening ramp, advocacy, and performance in the Q&A portion of the screening.
Tanedo and Perez will represent the Communication Department in the upcoming search for Mr. and Ms. CASS 2024 on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
