Communicators’ Guild led the General Orientation for the Communication Department of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), titled “RIDE TO GREATER HEIGHTS: Isang PARA tungo sa larangan at mundo ng midya,” held this September 11 at the TSU - Gymnasium.

BA Comm students held their street parade, showcasing their streetwear-themed and color-coded clothing: gray for freshmen, red for sophomores, blue for juniors, and white for seniors.

During the event, COMM Guild performed a dance routine, followed by the batch yell and batch dance competition partaken by each year level.

Certification was awarded to Juniors for winning the batch yell competition, freshies bag 1st place, placing the Sophomores at 2nd, while the Seniors settled for 3rd.

Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, CASS Dean Dr. Aloysius Madriaga told the students to reflect on what C.O.M.M. represents in the context of their studies and future careers.

“Creativity, Openness, Mastery, and Motivation as our guided principles, I have no doubt that you will not only excel in your studies but also make a meaningful impact in the field of Communication,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Agnes Macaraeg, TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, gave an inspirational message, stating that they want students to graduate with a heart as well as a mind.

“We are expecting everyone to do your best, let’s work together, let’s have that collaborative principle, and teamwork because if we are one nothing is impossible,” Dr. Macaraeg said.

Following the introduction of faculty members, Head CASS Discipline Coordinator Louis Adonis Silvestre highlighted the minor and major offenses in his talk about the College Student Discipline Manual.

Furthermore, Ms. Jackielyn Capienda discussed the Library Services, while TSU Supreme Student Council President Maria Angelica Fresnido talked about Student Rights, and invited representatives from each year level to participate in her “Dress To Impress” themed Ice Breaker.

In addition, COMM Guild presented their activities and events for the school year, preceded by the introduction of COMM Guild Executive Officers, Advisers, Junior Officers, Class Mayors and Team Heads, while CASS Governor Alexander Adrian Ong outlined the College Student Plan.

The orientation not only served as the students’ guide to completing this academic year, but also an engaging and interactive event that puts the Comm Department’s fun nature in the spotlight.
