Students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) joined the assembly of runners at Tarlac State University (TSU) – Villa Lucinda Campus to kick off the TSU Gew 2.0 Hydrofoam and Color Fun Run 2024 early this morning, celebrating the university's 118th founding anniversary.
After warming up with stretches and an energetic zumba session, more than 3,500 participants set off from the Lucinda Campus, running through Brgy. Binauganan, Brgy. Ungot, and back to the campus for the finish line.
With supervision from the TSU - Supreme Student Government (SSG), the university hosted its largest fun run in three years, giving a total of 110,000 pesos in prizes.
"With partnership with all the univ-wide organizations... maaga po ang naging start ng aming preparation and with that, nakakuha po kami ng partnership with big brands and nakatulong po siya to really boost our event," said SSC - Senator on Ways and Means, Angelo Mallari.
Elmar Torres, a Criminology student, bagged first place among all runners, earning a cash prize of 20,000 pesos.
Another Criminology student, Aldrin Toyo, secured second place with a cash prize of 15,000 pesos, while Kcristoffer Yamzon, also from Criminology, finished third and took home 12,000 pesos.
Additionally, TSU alumnus David Cardenas will receive 10,000 pesos for placing fourth, and Bachelor of Physical Education faculty member, Sherwin de Vera, will receive 8,000 pesos for placing fifth.
Runners who placed sixth to tenth will each receive 5,000 pesos, while ten consolation prizes of 1,000 pesos will also be awarded to the runners who followed.
Despite some confusion regarding the route during the fun run, SSG officers assured that marshals were deployed to ensure fairness throughout the event.
Meanwhile, CASS students expressed excitement as they enjoyed being drenched in colorful bubble foam.
"Napakaganda pong opportunity nito para makapagbond, specially for us freshies. We also get to see the faces of other students po from different campuses," said Ms. Irish Tabor, a first-year Psychology student.
The SSC, along with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Agnes Macaraeg, and the Head of the Sports Development and Management Unit, Dr. Ligaya Gina Samiento-Salangsang, extended their gratitude to everyone who supported the event.
"This event isn't just about finish line... but supporting one another," Dr. Macaraeg said during her welcome remarks.
Finally, SSC Senator Mallari shared his optimistic view for a "mas pinabonggang" TSU Gew next school year.
