The College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) organized the enrollment of incoming freshmen under the opt-out mechanism for Academic Year 2025–2026, held last July 10 at the Smith Hall building.

Spearheaded by the Department of Communication, Department of Psychology, Department of English Language Studies, and Department of Human Services, the enrollment process was carried out with the help of the Student Council and department-based organizations.

In an interview, Elizabeth D. Plaza, an incoming first-year student of Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (AB Psych), expressed her relief for being reconsidered under the opt-out mechanism.

“Masaya po kasi akala po namin wala na pong pag-asang makapag-aral sa TSU, kasi po noong una ‘di po kami na-qualify tapos umiiyak po kami noon,” Plaza stated.

Furthermore, incoming freshman Samuel John M. Gomez of Bachelor of Arts in Communication(AB Comm) highlighted the aid of the mechanism for students.

“Very helpful siya sa mga kagaya namin na hindi na-qualified, kaya big help siya.” Gomez said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Derich Bognot, a faculty member of AB Comm, noted an increase in the number of incoming freshmen under the opt-out scheme within their department.

“Sa department ng Communication, mas dumami ang opt-out this academic year… ngayon, ‘yung opt-out sa Comm ay magbubukas pa ng isang section,” he stated.

The opt-out mechanism allows students who did not meet the quota or cut-off to pursue their chosen programs with the option to pay tuition fees.

The enrollment was also extended to re-evaluated applicants who were offered free scholarship slots following the non-confirmation of qualified applicants from the first release of the TSU College Admission Test.
