First-year students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), together with the College of Engineering (COE), gathered for the second day of the freshies orientation at the TSU Main Campus Gymnasium on August 8, 2024.
With the theme โNEWBIE-GINNINGS,โ the orientation was kick-started by University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg, congratulating the freshies for getting accepted in Tarlac State University.
โNow that youโre officially a student of TSU... No retreat, no surrender,โ Dr. Macaraeg said.
University President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco followed with an inspiring address, sharing his personal experiences and narrating his hardships in life.
โKung merong pong isang kahig isang tuka, kami po noon, isang kahig walang matuka... but I considered myself as a dreamer,โ he said.
He also highlighted the importance of academic freedom, mentioning that it is not just for colleges like CASS, but also to different colleges like COE.
โAcademic freedom is very important,โ he asserted.
Moving on, the Management Information Systems Office (MISO) presented their services and educated the freshies on how to navigate the student portal and professionally evaluate their professors.
Meanwhile, the Human Resource Development and Management Office spoke about the right way to address complaints, while the Health Support Services introduced their facilities and encouraged the students to volunteer for the Red Cross.
The program was completed by the Office of Library Management and Services, which provided detailed information about the process of borrowing books across different TSU campuses, ensuring that all students are knowlegeable on how to access library resources.
In an interview with a CASS freshie, Ms. Feliciano, a Human Services student shared her expectations for the program.
โAng expectation ko po sa program ko ay ma-educate sa job opportunities po dito,โ she said.
NEWBIE-GININGS marks as the first event that the qualified CASS freshies attended as they accustom themselves to the university culture.
