Tarlac State University hailed Barzaga champions as they shone among the crowd in the highly anticipated Battle of the Bands (BOTB) yesterday, October 16, at the TSU Gymnasium.
Barzaga victoriously took the crown back from The Collectives who won last year, reclaiming the championship title after they prevailed last BOTB 2022.
The champions displayed dynamic performances all throughout their set, featuring the songs “Alapaap” by Eraserheads and “Yugyugan na” by The Advisor. They ended their performances through a serenade with “Don't Know What to Say" by Ric Segreto.
Barzaga tallied a total score of 95%, securing the championship in the bag. The Collectives were awarded 1st runner-up after marking up 92.67% on the score sheet, while Sonare followed closely at 2nd runner-up with a final score of 92.17%.
Stacey Obligado, Barzaga's keyboardist and a student from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), stated that their preparations for the event started late due to a tight schedule, rendering only four days of practice.
"Within those four days, binigyan namin 'yun ng best namin. So kahit ma-late na sa mga pupuntahan, nagsakripisyo kami,” she said.
“Sobrang nagdasal po kami, and nag-usap-usap po kami before mag start ('yung competition) is gawin namin yung best. As usual, don't forget na mag-enjoy,” Obligado added.
Barzaga Band also consists of students from other colleges, including Paolo Antalan from CAFA, Dale Francisco and Jhomari Velasco from CCS, Paul Nunag from CBA, and Joshua Vicedo from COE.
Special Awards are also given to the following:
Jayson Martos (Sonare) - Best Guitar Set-up
Jhomari Velasco (Barzaga) - Best Bass Set-up
