Following yesterday's oath taking, the Student Publication Unit (SPU) awarded the college publications of Tarlac State University certificates of accreditation to kick start their term this academic year on the second day of SIKLAB: Annual planning and Training of New Student Publications held at the TSU-Lucinda Hotel this morning, August 7, 2024.
Seminars on the second day of the event provided a robust training ground for the attendees, including topics like SPU system forms and technical budget procedures, led by Ms. Janecel Ramos and the pioneer of SIKLAB itself, Mr. Fred Mico Siron.
Former Managing Editor of The Work, Mr. Nil Allen Fajardo also delivered an inspirational talk about the various concepts of leadership in Campus Journalism.
"Ang pagkakaroon ng isang malusog na pamamalakad sa isang publikasyon ay nanggagaling mismo sa kung sino nga ba 'yong mga nasa taas o namumuno" he said.
"Isa sa mga prinsipyo ko sa buhay na gusto ko i-share sa inyo, ano ba iyong mga legacy na gusto n'yo maiwan kapag kayo na 'yong umalis, na lagi natin i'spread ang kindness. A little bit of kindness can create a big impact sa buhay ng bawat isa, it's up to you kung pa'no ka matatandaan, so choose how you want to be remembered,โ he added.
His address was followed by group reflections from each publication, creating a deeper understanding of ideas about the talk while sharing their previous experiences with leadership within the pub.
In the closing remarks, Dr. Gladie Cabanizas emphasized the importance of scouting for talented new writers.
"We will be welcoming around six thousand new freshmen, so with that six thousand, we can produce another group of writers, and it's your job to scout for your publications. Nasa inyo yan, so let's make itโnot naman as strict as possible, but let's choose the best of the best, and the creamiest of the creamiest," she said.
Dr. Cananizas added, "I'm really very thankful that you endured the two-day seminar of our planning. I hope that you'll be able to pursue your goals and objectives for this academic year, and God bless."
While the seminar delivered a major training ground for the new publications, the relationships built among the participants are invaluable and enduring.
SIKLAB participants celebrated the camaraderie formed during the event, expressing their appreciation through a spirited musical pursuit for the program's wrap up.
