Parents, students, and faculty of the Department of English Language Studies at Tarlac State University came together for the General Assembly held virtually via Microsoft Teams this morning, February 07, 2024, at 10:00 AM.

Hosted by AB ELS 3A and 2B Board of Directors, Elyza Ocampo and Keisha Vicencio, the assembly served as a platform to celebrate the department's achievements, discuss the proposed new curriculum, and elect officers for the DELS Parents Council.

Dr. Aloysius T. Madriaga, Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, delivered the opening remarks, setting the tone for a positive and productive gathering.

Following the Dean's address, DELS Chairperson Franchete O. Caingat led the introduction of the faculty, then proceeded with a comprehensive presentation of the department's accomplishments from the past year, which included the successful Learning Assistance Program, active participation of the department in university-wide activities, the publication of the Student Journal of English Language Studies Volume 2, faculty research presentations in esteemed conferences, and the extension services showcasing DELS' commitment to community engagement.

Moreover, Prof. Caingat featured updates on the proposed curriculum enhancement of the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies Undergraduate Degree Program. This session discussed ongoing efforts to modernize the curriculum by including internship in the program and adding three units for the course. Consequently, students will have no academic courses for the 2nd semester of their fourth year and instead focus on their On-the Job Training.

Dr. Myrel M. Santiago, the departmentโ€™s research chairperson, discussed the significance of the universityโ€™s mission, both in national & international partnerships, and laid out updates on the collegeโ€™s future research endeavours. Dr. Santiago also tackled the importance of integrating research on the studentโ€™s General Elective Subjects and Major Courses as it prepares them for their thesis writing.

Furthermore, Mr. David V. Lip, the college extension chairperson & department extension coordinator, narrated the different functions of the Collegeโ€™s Extension office. He showcased the Sitio Tala outreach program spearheaded by the Juniors of the English Department. He stated that the projects in the extension office give students the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts they learn inside the classroom in real world scenarios. He also added that the office builds networks for the studentsโ€™ future career endeavours by enhancing both their EQ and IQ.

Moving on, Prof. Caingat instructed the class mayors to go to their respective class channels to elect the officers of the Parentโ€™s Council in every section. The elected officers will be the representative of every parent in their respective section.

With a new set of officers in the DELS Parentโ€™s Council, the meeting was adjourned, hoping to solidify the involvement of the stakeholders and the university as they aid the college on financial and physical aspects, for it to provide the students with an unforgettable college experience.
