The College of Arts and Social Sciences students from winning bands Smith Society and Graham Ball Z stole the spotlight during the Battle of the Bands: The Anthem of the Heart held at the Tarlac State University Gymnasium on February 14, 2024, in line with the celebration of the SAS Week.

Smith Society band snatched the second runner-up place with CASS student members Janssen Gozum, a third year psychology student, and three first year communication studentsโ€”Joseph Mendoza, Shawn Valdez, and Mark Valete.

โ€œAside from pressure, itโ€™s a privilege din po.โ€ Ms. Gozum answered when she was asked about how they felt about participating as CASS students. She added how proud she felt to win despite the short preparation.

Meanwhile, Graham Ball Z Band snagged the fifth runner-up with fourth year Communication students, Ethan Jan Barlaan, Jasper Pitacio, and Jan Derek Legaspi, together with 2nd year Psychology student, Shekinah Ruth Legaspi.

The gymnasium was once again filled with elated cheers as they performed their renditions of Sinta by Rob Daniel, Come Inside of My Heart by IV of Spades, and Uhaw by Dilaw.

โ€œAraw-araw na rehearsal hanggang sa malinis namin yung arrangement na gusto naming iperform sa Battle of the Bands.โ€ Mr. Barlaan, the bandโ€™s lead singer, explained during his interview. He mentioned how nerve-wracking it was for them as some of the membersโ€”including himโ€”were joining for the first time.

A total of fifteen bands competed for the championship of the BOTB. Each group was given strictly 15 minutes to perform songs of their choice. The panel of judges consisted of Mr. Timothy Edwardson C. Balmores, Mr. Stephen Joseph Boribor Caducoy, and Mr. Wilfredo Nool Corpuz, I.

The event was organized by the Supreme Student Council. The program started with a short doxology, followed by the opening remarks given by Prof. Gherold Benitez, who encouraged students and participants to enjoy the experience. Communication students Dandy Tiongco and Shanen Hipolito were the hosts of the event.

Moreover, after everyone finished their presentations, Charles Terenz Fernandez, president of the TSU Supreme Student Council, gave the closing remarks.

Mekuz was hailed as the champion followed by Beeftones as the first runner up. Smith Society, Multiverse, Chippy, and Graham Ball Z were called the second, third, fourth, and fifth runner-ups, respectively.
