The Department of Psychology Faculty of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) spearheaded a General Parentsโ Assembly for Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor in Human Services, highlighting a discussion about the new programs to be implemented, February 03, 2024, via Zoom meeting.
The assembly was attended by parents and guardians, students, and faculty members, including the presence of Chairperson Angela Pangilinan, and CASS Dean Aloysius Madriaga who expressed his opening remarks and catered to the parentsโ queries and concerns.
The new programs will be subjected for approval as part of the 2024 curriculum in line with the Commission on Higher Educationโs (CHED) Psychology curriculum memorandum, thus, latest major subjects will be offered especially in AB Psychology, discussed by Ms. Pangilinan.
Moreover, Ms. Editha Villavicenco, former Psych Chairperson explained the proposed revisions for the retention policy:
- 2.50 grade or better in PSY 1A UTS (formerly 2.25 grade or better for Foundation Courses)
- 2.25 general weighted average (2nd โ 3rd year) (formerly 2.00 GWA)
- Retention Policy no longer apply in the 4th year
- Student cannot be on probationary status twice
Students with LOA and officially dropped status can be re-assessed in the program as long as grade requirements are met
The proposal presentation garnered negative reactions from students as it will only be effective for the incoming first-year students.
In addition, Students with their parents and guardians were then divided into breakout rooms by year level to conduct an election for guardians to better strengthen the departmentโs connections with them, as well be partnered of organizing and assisting the studentsโ needs and concerns.
Moreover, practicum coordinators-instructors held another meeting for fourth-year students with their parents for orientation regarding their On-the-Job Training (OJT) this second semester.
